Case Study
Data Architecture Quality Standards Assurance
The problem
A client’s Technical Design Authority (TDA) wanted to include Data Architecture as part of its assurance process, which would result in a wider architectural approval. The Delivery Manager submitting their project to the TDA also needed evidence that the assurance aligned to the organisation’s Data Architecture Data Quality Standards.
What we did
We developed an assurance process in which data architecture products were peer reviewed against standards which we also introduced to the organisation. These included quality measurements against a number of criteria, including business alignment, the enterprise data model and modelling standards. Data Architects were given the opportunity to revise their products following peer review, before they were certified via a scorecard.
The result
The review process and scorecard satisfied the clients on two counts: the TDA received a scorecard, knowing that the solution being submitted for approval met data quality standards, and the project could evidence to their stakeholders how far their products met the organisation’s standards and business requirements. An additional benefit was that Data Architects could be performance measured by the score they had achieved. This increased their credibility within the organisation, and within projects.
